Questions
Game One Answer: Bobby Richardson, a five-time
Gold Glover who never drove in more than 59 runs in any of his 12 seasons,
teed off on the Pittsburgh Pirates during the 1960 World Series. His unforeseen
12 RBI in that seven-game set represented almost half of his regular-season
total (26), spanning 150 games. The right-handed batter walloped Pirates
pitching that October for 11 hits, including a grand slam, two triples and
a pair of doubles. He also scored eight times and slugged .667 in a losing
effort. In fact, Richardson remains the only World Series MVP from a losing
team. Second basemen Jerry Coleman (1950), Billy Martin (1953), Bill Mazeroski
(1960), and Dick Green (1974) each won the Babe Ruth Award, the less heralded
World Series MVP honor given out by the New York chapter of the Baseball
Writers Association of America.
