Game Three Answer: Tommy Davis won the
1963 N.L. batting title by hitting .326 and the Dodgers outfielder batted
.400 (6-for-15), with two triples and two RBI in the 1963 World Series. Davis
game-winning RBI in Game Three helped Los Angeles sweep the Yankees. The
other four batting champions to hit for a higher mark in the fall classic
were Terry Pendleton (he hit .319 in 1991 and .367 in the World Series),
Carl Yastrzemski (hit .326 in 1967 and .400 in the World Series), Phil Cavarretta
(hit .355 in 1945 and .423 in the World Series); and Ty Cobb (hit .324 in
1908 and .368 in the World Series). Recent batting champions Bernie Williams
(.062 World Series batting average after a .339 season) and John Olerud (.235
after a .363 season) slumped badly in the fall classic after earning the
batting crown.
