Game Four Answer: Duane Ward was the
penultimate to do so, winning Game Two and Game Three for the Blue Jays in
1992. The others were: Rawly Eastwick (Reds; 1975), Jesse Barnes (Giants;
1921), Hugh Casey (Dodgers; 1947), Larry Sherry (Dodgers; 1959), and Ross
Grimsley (Reds; 1972). Ward also won Game Six of the 1993 World Series for
a 3-0 career mark in fall classic play. Like Ward, Eastwick (Game Two and
Three), Casey (Game Three and Four) and Grimsley (Game Five and Six) also
won their games in consecutive fashion.
Eastwick's Game Three victory in 1975 came about as a result of a controversial non-interference call involving Red Sox catcher Carlton Fisk and Reds pinch-hitter Ed Armbrister. With a runner (Cesar Geronimo) on first base and nobody out in the bottom of the 10th inning of a tie game, Armbrister laid down a bunt in front of the plate and collided with Fisk, who was attempting to field the ball. Umpire Larry Barnett, though, made no call. Fisk, opting not to throw to first for a secure out, hurried a throw to second base. The toss was errant, however, and sailed into center field, advancing Geronimo to third and Armbrister to second without an out in setting up the Reds victory. Of course, Fisk atoned for his mistake by hitting the most famous homer in Boston history, ending Game Six.
