During a lull in game 7 at St Louis, Joe Buck, out of a clear black sky, suddenly recalled to Tim McCarver that Ted Williams had batted .200 in the 1946 World Series.

What prompted that?

So out of curiosity I began counting all the men who have batted .200 or less in the post-season. I counted only big names. Stars like Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Derek Jeter, Yogi Berra, A-Rod, Mark Teixeira, Jackie Robinson, Barry Bonds, etc etc etc came up, usually more than once. Some made it 4-5 times.

The list totaled 233 names. If you check the men who batted .167, you'll find among them the name of a beloved broadcaster.

Note: Only one man on the list was playing with a painfully swollen right elbow. Can you name which one it was?

Joe and Tim, isn't it time to put this story to rest?
