Game Five Answer: Atlanta's Charlie Leibrandt
in 1992 joined Dodger great Don Newcombe, Tiger sensation Edgar Summers and
Cardinals southpaw Bill Sherdel for the worst World Series record (0-4).
Leibrandt, 1-7 overall in career post-season action, lost Game Six of the
1991 and 1992 World Series. Newcombe (8.55 career series ERA) lost all four
of his fall classic decisions to the New York Yankees, who beat the righthander
twice in 1949. Summers (5.73 career series ERA) lost twice in 1908 to the
Cubs and twice the following October to the Pirates. Sherdel lost twice to
the Yankees in 1926 and 1928.
