By Mike Attiyeh, author of Who Was Traded for Lefty Grove?
In the spirit of the fall classic, I have assembled for you a World Series Trivia Challenge. You will be asked seven questions in this best-of-seven format, from which you will be required to answer four correctly for the right to call yourself a world champion baseball mind.
All the facts are updated through October 18, 2002. Think you can handle it? If so, good luck skipper.
Game One: Only one second baseman has ever won the prestigious World Series MVP Award, as officially given by Sport Magazine. His total of 12 RBI in that classic still stands as the single-series record. Who is this reliable contact hitter better known for his smooth ability with the glove? Answer
Game Two: Although 10 inside-the-park home runs have been hit in World Series history, none have been accomplished since the 1929 World Series. Patsy Dougherty hit the first inside-the-park homer in series play in 1903. Who hit the last? Answer
Game Three: Barry Bonds will become the 32nd player to win a batting title and appear in the World Series the same year. Of the 31 previous batting champions who appeared in the fall classic, only five have hit for a higher batting average in the World Series than during their league-leading regular season. But can you name the only one on a world champion? Answer
Game Four: With wins in Game One and Game Five of the 2000 World Series, the Yankees Mike Stanton became the seventh relief pitcher to win two games in a single fall classic. Can you name any three of the previous six to accomplish the feat? Answer
