Description of Best Players of the Live Ball Era (1920-1941)

These are the best players in their best season from this era.

In 1920, Babe Ruth and a lively baseball, ushered in a new era in baseball. The home run changed the way the game was played and scoring increased. This is a collection of the players with the best single season performances over the 21 year span. The years 1942-1947 are often included in discussions of this era, but the strike zone was widened and average runs scored dropped to nearly the same levels as the Dead Ball era.

The top eight players at each position were chosen from each league from 1920 to 1941. That makes 80 infielders, 48 outfielders and 160 pitchers. Draft all-star teams and play the NL versus the AL.

See the stunning roster of 77 Hall of Famers eligible for this set (66 made it!).

The HOF rosters include:

Year, Batting Average and number of Home Runs during best eligible season, whether or not the player was included in the set and reasons why or why not for the boys on the bubble, all by position and league.
